Everything about Isis Journal totally explained
Isis is an
academic journal published by
The University of Chicago Press devoted to the
history of science,
history of medicine, and the
history of technology, as well as their cultural influences, featuring both original research articles as well as extensive book reviews and review essays. It was founded in
1912 by
George Sarton and is the official publication of the
History of Science Society, the primary professional society for the discipline of the
history of science and technology. It is the oldest English-language journal devoted to the subject, and is published quarterly. Publication is partly supported by an endowment from the Dibner Fund.
The
Current Bibliography (formerly the
Cumulative Bibliography) of the history of science is published annually as a fifth volume of
Isis. This is a bibliography of recent publications in the history of science and related fields, including books, book reviews, and journal articles. Following the retirement of editor John Neu in 1999, the bibliography office moved to the
University of Oklahoma.
It appears to have been located in Philadelphia in a previous incarnation. The current editorial office is located at
York University in
Toronto.
